Precepting

Precepting is an integral component of Red Rocks Physician Assistant student education.

Physicians (MD/DO), Physician Assistants (PA's), Nurse Practitioners (NP's) and Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM's) can precept.

Clinical precepting offers the opportunity for professional and personal development while mentoring PA students at various stages of clinical education. Modeling provided by preceptors/host teams, in all types of clinical settings, provides students with a tremendous learning experience.

If you currently precept, we wholeheartedly thank you for the generous donation of time you spend assisting in the clinical education of Red Rocks PA Program students.

If you are interested in becoming a preceptor, please fill out the form below or fill in the MS Teams form here

Here’s what our preceptors say about our students:

“[This student] is well beyond her level of training, and her professional demeanor, work ethic, and emotional intelligence make her an absolute joy to work with. She is independent functioning, but knows her limitations and is comfortable asking for help when she needs it. Easily one of the best students I have ever worked with in the Emergency Department.”
- Denver Health Emergency Physician

“[This student] is an excellent role model for the Red Rocks PA Program! She has much better clinical skills than any other student I have worked with before. It is clear she has devoted herself to becoming the best PA she can be."
- Internal Medicine PA

First of all, we want to thank you for the generous donation of time you spend assisting in the clinical education of Red Rocks PA Program students. We are asking you to consider precepting our clinical year students in your practice for the upcoming year.

The requirements our students have to complete for each rotation include:

  • Direct patient care with as much hands on experience as you feel comfortable allowing
  • Between 36-70 hours per week of direct patient care
  • Completion of technical competencies as defined by the syllabus for this rotation
  • A mid-term and final evaluation by the preceptor of record with added input for others involved in the student’s training.
  • Complete logging of all their patient contacts in Exxat© PA Student Tracking program.

If these criteria cannot be met on your rotation, please let us know. We look forward to partnering with you for the clinical education of our students. We are happy to provide you with any material needed to be a more effective mentor. Once again, THANK YOU on behalf of all the students and faculty at RRCC PA Program.
