The Red Rocks Community College PA Program is excited to announce and congratulate Jonathan Edmunds as a recipient of the Joyce Nichols Scholarship!

Jonathan Edmunds

Joyce Nichols was the first woman to be formally educated as a physician assistant (PA). She also happened to be the first African-American woman to practice as a PA. Graduating from the Duke PA program in 1970, Ms. Nichols overcame many obstacles and pioneered the way for women and minorities in the PA profession. As the first minority to serve on the AAPA Board of Directors, she established the AAPA Minority Affairs Committee and became a role model for African-Americans and other minorities in the PA profession.

The Joyce Nichols Memorial Scholarship was established in 2020 to foster diversity and provide financial support for a Black PA students.

Jonathan Edmunds is active on the RRCC PA Class of 2021’s Diversity Committee and has a strong interest in advancing opportunities for minority students. The Red Rocks PA program strongly values diversity, and it is an honor to have Jonathan as part of our 2021 cohort. We look forward to seeing the amazing things Jonathan does throughout his career, and we are incredibly proud of him!

As noted in the April 2022 edition of the Centennial Area Health Education Center (CAHEC) Connection Newsletter:
