About Moon Shot

To fulfill the promise of student success, we must eliminate persistent equity gaps at our colleges and universities. Our communities and our country will thrive only if all people have a fair and equal chance to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed.

Today, that means helping many more Americans complete college degrees and credentials of value. Schools that join the project commit to working together and with EAB to help more underrepresented students of color and other historically underserved populations graduate from college.  RRCC has partnered with EAB Moon Shot for Equity which is a 5-year commitment to build a comprehensive equity strategy across all areas of the college while removing institutional barriers to equitable student success.

Through Moon Shot for Equity, RRCC will develop a cohesive equity plan that provides research-backed best practices, policies, and technology proven to reduce and eliminate equity gaps. For our students, that means reaching their attainment goals in less time, for less money, and achieving better career outcomes.

If you are a Red Rocks faculty or staff member and would like to participate in our Moon Shot effort, email rrcc.inclusion@rrcc.edu

Moon Shot aligns with the strategies and tactics of the college's current Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan.  To learn about progress on that larger plan, see the DEI Annual Report or shortened Community Update

Moon Shot is a college-wide effort and requires the knowledge, skills, and collaboration of all areas of Red Rocks.  The EAB Moon Shot Steering Committee is listed below.  Please feel free to reach out with questions or ideas.

Status Updates

Progress

Since our last update, a lot has been taking place.

  • We did an all-college call for volunteers to serve on our year one practice teams, as well as our guiding teams throughout the Moon Shot project.  The Steering Committee worked to determine members for each of the teams, and they have been assembled and are beginning their work.  For a list of team members, click here.
  • We've also set the date for our first Moon Shot Convening!  Save the date for April 28, 2023.  The Steering Committee is planning a fantastic morning of events to engage the college in facing the post-covid challenges ahead of us and working collaboratively to support students. An RSVP form for the convening will go out via email in mid-March.

Next Steps

  • Year one practice teams will be collecting data, analyzing it, and working toward providing recommendations on improvements specific to the context of RRCC
  • Progress to date will be reported out briefly on Development Day (April 18th) as well as at the Moon Shot Convening on April 28th.

Progress

We have completed the first 100 days of our Moon Shot partnership with EAB! During this time:

  • The Executive Leadership Team has completed equity-mindedness training with our EAB consultants.
  • Steering Committee members have been selected.
  • Data-sharing agreements have been enacted.
  • Diagnostics and analysis of our current state has been completed.
  • Our best practices to focus on in year one have been selected:

    • HOLD REFORM
    • RETENTION GRANTS
    • TRANSFER PATHWAYS
    • COORDINATED CARE

Next Steps

  • A team from RRCC consisting of three steering committee members and two vice presidents will attend the EAB Connected Conference November 7-9.
  • Best Practice Team recruitment and selection will begin.  We hope to have teams fully established before the end of the semester.
  • We will be preparing for an onboarding training for practice teams in early 2023.
