Associate Applied Science Nursing Program Mission

Our mission is to educate nursing students through our passion for learning and commitment to healthcare excellence, utilizing a dynamic and innovative approach to nursing education. Our foundational goal is in developing self-directed learners, fostering their personal academic achievement, and career accomplishment as skilled, professional nurses making meaningful contributions to the communities they serve.

About RRCC Nursing:

  • The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing provides students the opportunity to be educated in the science of nursing through a combination of lecture, lab, and clinical education. The nursing program is designed to educate students to work in the ever-changing healthcare environment in various roles, caring for patients across the healthcare continuum. Our graduates will be educated with the nursing program pillars of Clinical Reasoning, Critical Thinking, Cultural Competence, Leadership, and Safe, Ethical Nursing Practice based on Caring and Professional Collaboration.
  • Our graduates are eligible for jobs in acute and long-term care settings, outpatient care, and clinics caring for patients across the lifespan.
  • An Associate of Applied Sciences in Nursing aligns with the mission and role of Red Rocks Community College's mission statement. The nursing program will support and meet the organizational mission statement.

How to Apply to the Nursing Program

  1. If you are new to RRCC, begin with applying for college admission at https://www.rrcc.edu/apply-now.
  2. Meet with the Health Sciences Advisor

  4. Attend an Information session
  5. HESI 2 Nursing Entrance Exam is required for students. Students must score at least a 70 on reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and general knowledge of English Language and a 70 on the composite Math score.
  6. Accreditation and State Board of Colorado Approval - Accreditation application information to follow.
  7. Program Requirements for Associate of Applied Science includes Theory/Lab/Clinical. The credits are Contract Ratios

Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Student Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation with an associate in applied sciences degree with a Nursing major, the graduate will demonstrate the following competencies and be eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN. 

  • Provide safe, quality, evidence-based, patient-centered nursing care in various healthcare settings to diverse patient populations across the lifespan.
  • Engage in critical thinking and clinical reasoning to make patient-centered care decisions.
  • Implement quality measures to improve patient care.
  • Participate in collaborative relationships with an interdisciplinary team members, the patient, and the patient’s support persons.
  • Use information management principles, techniques, systems, and patient care technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.
  • Provide leadership in various healthcare settings for diverse patient populations.
  • Assimilate professional, legal, and ethical guidelines in practice as a professional nurse.
  • Promote a caring culture to provide holistic, compassionate, culturally competent care.
