Become a Cyber Security Expert
Protect businesses large and small as a professional in cyber security! Our unique and comprehensive cyber security degree programs supplement an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Science as an area of concentration, or it can be completed on its own as a certificate.
With either a cyber security certificate or degree, you will learn how to:
- Accurately convey technical information and interpret technical literature
- Identify computer network threats and respond to such threats, using defense techniques, countermeasures, and computer forensics
- Understand legal and ethical concerns regarding real-world cyber security issues
- Conduct forensic analyses
- Encrypt sensitive information
- Collect, analyze, and interpret technical data through investigation and experimentation
For the degree: The Cyber Security program requires the completion of a core curriculum for all CIS degrees, as well as 35 credits from a list of available cyber security courses. If done in succession, the degree takes approximately TK to complete.

For the certificate: A certificate in cyber security requires the completion of 26 credits, which includes seven courses and an internship with an approved institution. If done in succession, the certificate takes approximately TK to complete.

What Can I Do With a Cyber Security Degree or Certificate?
The cyber security program is ideal for Computer Information Systems students that wish to begin working as an entry-level network security specialist. Computer science is and will remain a lucrative and valuable industry for students entering the workforce; cyber security, in particular, has experienced a shortage of skilled professionals in recent years, making this field even more desirable. And what’s more—a network security specialist earns an average salary of over $60,000.
Cyber Security Scholarship Program
Red Rocks Community College is now offering a Cyber Security Scholarship Program (CSSP) for up to 24 students each for the 2018 academic year. Students who are awarded this scholarship receive up to $3,750 per semester, totaling up to $7,500 per year. 2018 scholarship awards will depend on funding available.
To earn the CSSP, a student must:
- Be a fulltime student (12 credit hours)
- Have a 3.0 minimum GPA
- Be in need of financial aid, according to FAFSA
