Psychology at Red Rocks Community College

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and human behavior. Historically, psychologists have conducted research on the predictable patterns of human and animal behavior with a major theme being how external influences interact with the biology of the individual to produce behavior. This field is undergoing some major changes thanks to discoveries in neuroscience and the emerging utilization of high-tech equipment such as brain scanners. There is reason to believe that the applied end of this behavioral science will continue to produce openings in a variety of fields where knowledge of human behavior is needed. A graduate degree is generally needed for a professional position in Psychology, but many college students minor in Psychology or combine it with another field for a dual major in areas such as Education or Business.

The Red Rocks Community College psychology and social work programs are dedicated to fostering critical thinking, professionalism, and ethics among our students. We embrace a community enriched and enhanced by diversity along a number of dimensions, including race, ethnicity and national origins, gender and gender identity, sexuality, class, and religion. We are committed to the success of each and every individual in our courses and hope to increase the representation of those populations that have been historically excluded from participation in U.S. higher education while preparing our students for successful careers in psychology and related fields.
