Emergency Management & Planning at RRCC
The ability to perform essential work in a disaster requires skills in emergency operations and management. The Colorado Division of Emergency Management has supported this program since its inception in 1999. Additionally, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recognizes the Red Rocks program as one of the pioneering online Emergency Management programs in the country.
Floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, train wrecks, and hazardous chemical spills are all examples of public emergencies in which life and property are endangered. How well a community or an organization prepares for and deals with these and other kinds of disasters can affect not only their economic viability but people's lives.
What Emergency Managers and Planners Do
Professionals in this field can be federal, state or local government officials, employed by volunteer organizations or the private sector. They work to minimize the effects of disasters on the public through prevention, public education, planning, and effective response operations. They must be effective problem solvers, decision makers, and communicators, and they must work well with all kinds of people in crisis situations.
