Faculty Bios
Joyce Anderson, CIH, brings to the Rocky Mountain Education Center over 20 years of experience in industrial hygiene, health safety and OSHA related matters. Ms. Anderson was employed by the U.S. Department of Labor - OSHA as an inspector for more than 11 years and has been an instructor at the RMEC since 1994. Ms. Anderson holds a Bachelors degree in Environmental Health from Colorado State University and currently owns Compliance Specialties a safety, health, and training consulting firm.
Jim Arendas is the Environmental Safety and Health Director for the Construction Advancement Foundation. He brings 25 years of experience to the RMEC. Mr. Arendas holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety Management from Indiana State University.
Shawn Armstrong has 16 years in the fire service including six years as a Hazardous Materials Technician on the busiest Haz-Mat rig in the country. Mr. Armstrong has been with the Denver Fire Department and an instructor for the RMEC since 2000. Shawn brings real world experiences to the classroom showing students problems that can be encountered in the workplace and how to solve those problems. He also holds an A.S. in Fire Science.
Stuart F. Asay PE, Ph.D, is a registered professional engineer and a well-known leader in the backflow prevention industry for 22 years. Dr. Asay consults nationally and internationally in the water supply and plumbing industries. He is the publisher of Drinking Water & Backflow Prevention. John Breece has over 26 years of experience in plumbing, HVAC and the construction industry. He has been a full time plumbing and HVAC instructor at Red Rocks Community College since 1993. Professor Breece is a licensed Colorado Master Plumber, State certified Cross Connection Control Technician, certified medical gas installer and licensed HVAC Contractor. He is certified by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials and the International Code council as a Mechanical Inspector. John is also a certified Master Trainer through the National Center for Construction Education and research. He also holds 4 AAS Degrees in Electronics, Plumbing, HVAC and Maintenance Electrician. He has many years of field experience in the plumbing and HVAC industries.
Frank Burg PE, (MA), CSP, has 30 years of experience, 18 of which were at OSHA. He has been a compliance officer, the Voluntary Protection Program coordinator, safety director for one of the largest electrical construction contractors, and for the last five years has operated Accident Prevention Corporation, a safety and health consulting firm. Agnes Talamantez Carroll has been an instructor of business conversational Spanish with the Rocky Mountain Education Center since 2001. She is also the President of Cultura Business Communications. Her career as a trainer gained national recognition in 1995 when First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton visited her classroom. She is a certified business and business Spanish trainer and her books have been published. She is listed in the national Who's Who of Executive Professionals for 2004 and is also listed in the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Who's Who. In 2004, she was awarded three community contribution awards from The Archdiocese of Denver, the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Adelante Mujer.
Robert W. Cos is Vice President and Chief Surveyor of Crane Operational Services, Inc., a crane training, inspection, certification, maintenance and accident investigation corporation. He is accredited by the United States Department of Labor, Occupational safety and Health Administration. The States of California, Washington, and Maryland authorized to issue documents and/or papers of certification, on shore based cranes, cranes on barges, derricks, heavy lift cranes, overhead cranes and/or hoists and material handling devices which require certification under CFR Part 1919. Mr. Cos brings 33 years experience to the staff of Crane Operational Services.
Peter Cucuz brings more than 30 years of experience as a health and safety professional to the Education Center. Mr. Cucuz spent eight years with the Department of Labor - OSHA. Currently, Mr. Cucuz is the owner of a safety and health consulting firm. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Safety Management from Indiana State University.
Phil Currance has more than 20 years firefighter experience, six years experience with the Jefferson County Hazardous Materials Response Team, and 18 years Hazardous Materials Emergency Response training. Phil has been an Emergency Paramedic for the last 30 years. He currently serves with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as the deputy commander of the U.S. National Medical Response Team - Central Taskforce.
Rex Davis has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry. His business, Rex Davis & Associates, is dedicated to providing solutions to the construction industry concerning their estimating, training, and drafting needs. He has taught for the Colorado Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship and Training for 15 years prior to coming to Red Rocks. His credentials include AAS Construction/ Construction Management, Small Business Management Certificate, Auto CAS Certification, OSHA 500, full-time Vocational teaching Credential, and Journeyman Carpenter Credentials.
David DuBose has more than 33 years of experience in the construction industry in a variety of positions, including superintendent, project manager and owner. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the RMEC. Mr. DuBose has personally trained more than 18,000 construction employees. Attendees of his courses represent a variety of industries, including OSHA officers, public works personnel and Health and Safety individuals.
Kathy Easton MA, brings more than 28 years of training experience to the Rocky Mountain Education Center. Ms. Easton has instructed for the RMEC since 1992. Ms. Easton specializes in group dynamics, team building, management aspects of safety, and training techniques. Ms. Easton earned her Masters degree in Education from Colorado State University.
Herb George has 28 years of experience as a Captain with the Westminster Fire Department. With 15 years of service responding with the Jefferson/Adams County HAZMAT Team, Mr. George brings to his students a realistic hands-on approach to HAZMAT response. Herb currently sits on the Adams/Jefferson County HAZMAT Board and has functioned as training coordinator for the team. Mr. George is a certified Uniform Fire Code Inspector and certified by the NFA in Instructional Methodology.
David Glabe, PE, is the president of DH Glabe & Associates, Inc., a construction engineering and training company. For more than 30 years, he has developed training programs and instructs regularly at the National OSHA Training Institute in Arlington Heights, IL. Mr. Glabe is a member of the ANSI A10.8 subcommittee for scaffolding and advises companies and government agencies on OSHA matters. David earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Valparaiso University and is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states.
Catherine Glenn has been working in the computer industry for more than 20 years. She has been working as an independent trainer and contractor since 1996 and has been teaching with the RMEC since 1997. Catherine earned her A.A.S. in Business from Arapahoe Community College and brings plenty of real-world experience to her classes.
Donovan Grenz has more than 20 years of experience in training and has worked as a senior training instructor for the U.S. Department of Labor - OSHA. Mr. Grenz has professional experience in government services, having worked for the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Commerce, and U.S. Department of Labor - OSHA.
Doug Hall has 27 years of occupational safety and fire protection experience. He is certified in the International and Uniform Fire Codes and is a Certified Fire Protection specialist with NFPA. Doug serves as Vice-President of the Fire Marshals Association of Colorado. He is an instructor at the OSHA Education Centers at Red Rocks Community College and at Texas A&M University. His specialty areas are fire/life safety codes and standards and the management of hazardous materials. He has a Bachelor's Degree from Regis University and is completing a Master's Degree in Political Science at the University of Colorado.
Craig Halpern MS, CPE, ARM, has six years of experience as an ergonomics and safety consultant for Insurance Management Associates. Mr. Halpern is a certified professional ergonomist and is a frequent national and international author and presenter on regulatory, safety and ergonomics topics.
Tom Halter CSP, CHCM, is president of a consulting firm specializing in general industry safety, construction safety and industrial hygiene. Mr. Halter brings more than 27 years of experience and has begun his seventh year as an instructor for the OTI. Mr. Halter has been an OSHA inspector, a safety engineer and Industrial Hygienist in the petrochemical industry and a laboratory technologist.
Harvey Harnish has 24 years of experience as an instructor and trainer in occupational safety. Mr. Harnish is the course chairperson for the electrical and machine guarding courses at the Rocky Mountain Education Center. He brings his expertise in electrical, welding safety and concrete construction to the Institute's courses. Currently, Mr. Harnish is the owner of a health and safety consulting firm.
Fernando Hernandez has more than 14 years experience in the safety industry. He was born in Mexico and is fluent in Spanish. His professional credentials include Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH); Certified Safety Professional (CSP); Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM); and Certified Environment Trainer (CET). For the past six years, Fernando has specialized in construction safety.
Joseph Howicz, is a former Senior Instructor at the OSHA National Training Institute. He has been one of the primary trainers of OSHA's federal and state compliance and consultation staff. He was the Chairperson and lead trainer in OSHA's hazardous materials and process safety management courses. Joe is a Certified Safety Professional and a Certified Fire Protection Specialist. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association and the American Society of Safety Engineers. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree at Northern Illinois University and a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Illinois.
N. Joseph Hudson REM, CHMM, has been active in the safety profession for over thirty years. He received his B.S. in Environmental Safety from Indiana State University and attended graduate school at Colorado State in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Joe has worked as a compliance officer for the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA and the State of Nevada. He is currently employed as manager of health and safety programs for a gas and electric utility company with responsibilities for formulating and providing technical safety direction for subsidiary operation in pipeline, electric generation and gas distribution.
Bill Jancouskas, MBCP, is certified as a Master Business Continuity Professional with the Disaster Recovery Institute International, and serves as a commissioner on its Certification Commission. Bill has over 14 years experience in the field of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery in both industry and government. Bill provides instruction on Emergency Management for Red Rocks Community College, serves in the Association of Contingency Planners' mentor program, and is on the Advisory Board for Mercury Risk Services.
Gary Leitz Ed.D., CSP, has more than 25 years of experience working for the U.S. Department of Energy in occupational safety and technical training. He has multiple degrees in Education, Occupational safety and an Ed.D. in Safety Education. Gary is an adjunct professor of Occupational Safety at Colorado State University. His areas of interest include psychology of safety, Behavior Based Safety, Root Cause analysis and the Psychology of Safety Training.
Michael F. Lorenzo, CSP, has over 20 years of experience in the health and safety field; for six years he has worked for the Occupational Health and safety Administration (OSHA) as a federal safety and health compliance officer. Michael currently works at Pinnacol Assurance as a construction specialist. Mr. Lorenzo has a masters degree in environmental health and safety management from the University of Denver, as well as two bachelor's degrees from the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Joe McFadden MT, CHSP, has 25 years of experience in the healthcare, construction and general industry work environments, in the areas of safety, health, toxicology and industrial hygiene. Other areas of expertise include expert witness work, laboratory safety, safety management, accident investigation, training, and the chemistries of hazardous materials. Joe is the president of his own safety and health consulting firm, McFadden & Associates, LLC and does work with various state and federal government departments, private corporations, and healthcare entities.
Bill Oleskevich EEM Consulting, Inc. is an EPA and State of Colorado approved training provider. President of EEM, Bill has been an approved instructor for 13 years. EEM and the Rocky Mountain Education Center are jointly providing Asbestos classes.
Scott Olson brings training and experience as an environmental consultant to his role as a tenured faculty member at Red Rocks Community College in environmental compliance. A graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, he first became involved with health and safety issues when he was an employee at the UCLA Medical Center. Mr. Olson's professional affiliations include membership in the National Environmental Training Association.
William A. Rodman CSP, is known in Process Safety Management and general industry regulatory compliance. His Project and Facilities engineering background includes over 40 years of experience in manufacturing and aerospace. He is a principal and owner of a consulting firm in Greeley, Colorado and has been invited to instruct both nationally and internationally by private and public institutions.
Kevin Simonton M.S., CPE, has 12 years of practical experience in the field of ergonomics. Mr. Simonton received his B.S. degree from the University of Oregon in Exercise Science/Biomechanics and his M.S. degree from the University of Southern California in Human Factors/Ergonomics. He has been a Board Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE) since 1997.
Ron Schuetz has been in the Community Colleges of Colorado system as a trainer and equipment technician for the past ten years. Ron holds certificates as an instructor for the American Heart Association as well as the National Safety Council in both First Aid and CPR, and the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Mr. Schuetz holds an associate degree in environmental health and safety.
Cliff Thomas, CBCP has over 21 years of organizational preparedness experience with the military, industry, and government. Cliff instructs Business Emergency Management at Red Rocks Community College, and has spoken and consulted internationally on matters of emergency preparedness. Cliff is the founder and president of Mercury Risk Services, specializing in enterprise risk management services for industry and government.
Carol Way is an environmental health professional specializing in the areas of worker health and safety on hazardous materials clean-up sites and emergency responses. A former HAZMAT responder and enforcement officer with the Environmental Protection Agency, Ms. Way brings more than 15 years of HAZMAT experience to the RMEC Additionally, she teaches nationally for the National Park Service in their Hazard Communication Train-the-Trainer program.
Jane Williams the founder of A-Z Safety Resources, Inc., has developed a national reputation as a safety, health and environmental professional specialist for construction firms. As a consultant, Jane works with construction firms on a variety of topics such as Multi-Employer worksites, Safety & Health Plans and Programs, development, and is an OSHA 10, 30, 500, 510, and 200 Course Instructor and Southwest Safety Alliance Instructor.
Manuel Ypsilantis has 32 years of experience in the Safety and Health industry. Mr. Ypsilantis was the Construction branch Chief at the OSHA Training Institute for over ten years. He holds a Bachelors degree in Safety and Supervision and Management from Indiana State University. Currently, Manuel is providing a wide variety of Safety and Health services to clients throughout the country.
