Youth College is a series of fun and educational summertime programs designed specifically for youth entering seventh, eighth and ninth grades. In three jam-packed days, participants have the chance to develop teambuilding and leadership skills, learn problem solving techniques, make new friends and above all - have fun! This summer the courses offered are, “A Look Inside”, “Lifesavers” and “Leadership Skills for Muggles”. “A Look Inside” Three fascinating days filled with activities designed to introduce curious youth to the science behind x-rays and their uses in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the human body. Participating youth will learn about the discovery of x-rays, the early uses, and current applications of this fascinating energy. They will also learn about the skeletal system and the role bones play in the body. Each youth will have an opportunity to work in an actual radiography examination room and see first hand the process involved in producing an x-ray image. “Leadership Skills for Muggles” Through games and activities, Leadership Skills for Muggles will examine and explore individual styles of leaning, leading and following. You will participate in a number of physical and mental challenges. The last day will culminate with a “Ropes Course” at Exempla Hospital West Pines in Wheat Ridge. “Lifesavers” “Lifesavers” features three days of learning firsthand what these exciting and essential occupations do on a day-to-day basis. Day one features the Arvada Police and includes crime scene and accident investigations, building searches, dispatch, report writing and a visit from the canine team. On day two Pridemark Paramedic Services will present activities including CPR training and other life saving techniques, ambulance demonstration and live scenarios. Day three meets at the Arvada Fire Training Facility and will include a tour, car extrication, air packs and hose demonstrations, extinguisher training, problem solving, prevention techniques and the “maze.” A certificate of completion presented by the Fire Chief, Arvada Chief of Police and the CEO of Pridemark completes the program.
